The Wasson vineyard is located in the Alexander Valley region of Sonoma County. Over time, the nearby Russian River’s powerful flooding and constant motion has left behind soils rich with clay and gravel – a terroir that now defines the Wasson Vineyard. The Alexander Valley’s warm days and cool nights create an ideal environment for delicious, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.
One of the later picks of the vintage this site benefits from extensive time on the vine allowing for rich ripening of the skins for full expression of Cabernet character. After a gentle destemming and extended cold soak to draw out the beautiful color, the wine underwent a lengthy fermentation before being pressed off of skins and sent to a selective series of 45% new oak barrels primarily French in origin for 16 months. The resulting wine spoke of its vineyard character and as a result we left it as 100% Cabernet.
Tasting Notes
Decadent. Baking chocolate. Crème de cassis. Multi-layered with a play on richness and character as the wine unfolds upon pouring and aeration. The interplay between fruit and oak expression is tug of war on your attention that will have you coming back for a second glass. A powerful cabernet that showcases the ripeness of the vintage.
